Have you ever watched a movie without its soundtrack? It’s like eating flavorless food, or never taking your shoes off to walk barefoot in the sand and surf at the beach. Our senses inform us at our very core, the vibrations, textures, and energies contributing sensuality and connection with the world around us. Few things accomplish this better than music; music soothes the soul, sets the scene, and brings everything to life!

When I write, I often listen to a variety of music, and sometimes, just the right song comes on, adding poignancy and deeper connection to a scene or character. The right song can draw new depths out of a character, exposing layers of pain, joy, passion, or anger, so that the writer is no longer in strict control of the pen. By connecting with a song, a character begins to write themselves and their story, and the writer becomes the observer and conduit for the character to express.

For this edition of Storm Sneaks, I have noted one such instance where the emotions elicited by a song, and the lyrics, perfectly capture what is happening in the story. When you read chapter Three, or reread it for fun, go to YouTube and listen to As the Rush Comes, by Motorcycle. It was playing when I captured this scene, and absolutely brought Kait to life in my imagination. Afterwards, let me know what layers of expression it brought out for you!

Enjoy!
